The Nigerian government disclosed that it is willing to partner with Senegal and other West African nations to achieve positivity in the area of power, energy and rural electrification.
This was disclosed by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Power, Mr Goddy Jedy-Agba, in a meeting with the delegation from Senegal, led by the country’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Ms Aissatou Sophie Gladima in Abuja.
He added that as the world prepares for COP26, it was important for West African countries to discuss and come up with a strong position that would represent the interests of the region and continent.
He said challenges in power generation in the region includes funding which is the major challenge affecting the Power sector in Africa, adding that “the United Nations and the World Bank should support the continent to develop its renewable energy sources.”
The Senegalese Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Aissatou Sophie Gladima, said she was in Nigeria to seek how her country would collaborate with Nigeria in the area of electricity and power generation, noting that electricity deficit is a common problem in Africa and citing a need to work closely together to find sustainable solutions to the challenge.
In case you missed it
Recall that Nairametrics reported last month that in a bid to foster collaborative power generation in the region, the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved a $6 million grant to launch the initial phase of the Desert to Power West Africa Regional Energy Program.
This is just a dream. There will never be a normal electricity supply in Nigeria. Talking about normal power supply in Nigeria is like a trying to put back the head that has been cut off. Meanwhile Nigerians will continue to be poisoned and killed by fumes from generators.
