The Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has sealed 43 structures on Airport Road for violating the Physical Planning law of the state.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, who said the development affected 13 banks and 13 hotels among others.
Salako explained that the buildings, most of which are in use, were either built without planning permit or built without conforming to their approval order.
He emphasised that the area, being an international gateway to Lagos State, must not be defaced with illegal developments, stressing that all physical developments on Airport Road and other areas of the State must conform to the planning laws of the government.
He said, “It is by enforcing strict compliance with laws and regulations that we can halt the pervasive incidence of illegal and unapproved buildings, protect the Operative Development Plans of Lagos State and sustain an orderly, organised and livable environment.”
The Commissioner warned those buying or renting property to ensure that the planning permits and Certificate of Fitness for habitation are in order to avoid their property being sealed.
The Commissioner averred that the Physical Planning enforcement exercise, which commenced some weeks ago, is aimed at eliminating the menace of illegal buildings and sanitise the built environment in Lagos State.
Lagos state ministry of physical planning and urban development got it all wrong . And I don’t want to believe that there is an ulterior motive behind this. where was the government all these while? For over 20 years, you allow people to buy land and develop it , you give them permit, later you turn around to seal business premises without serving any notice.
Is it because air port road was renovated? Well we will see how the case will turn out.
Should I make myself to believe this government or bunch of thieves who created another source for hoolangs to harass and exploit small businesses that are thriving to survive. It was a shock that banks were even closed, how would a nation develop talkless of investors coming to invest in our nation. I strongly believe all shall come to an end. Rarely distinguish armed robber and legalise armed robbery. Incompetent leaders
@Momoh, if banks violate the laws, they should be sanctioned like anyone else. And please we do not want any ‘investors’ who would come to break the law. That’s why the oil companies pollute our land, and Pfizer fatally used our kids as guinea pigs, etc.
The Lagos State government should be ashamed of their actions. Were they sleeping when those structures were erected? It took some years for those structures to be elected and it’s now they know the structures shouldn’t be there. Instead of fixing bad roads and cleaning the state they are busy closing down businesses. This is the worst government in the history of Lagos State.
The state is dirty with refuse at most street corners, bad roads and poor traffic management and they are closing businesses they can’t create.
Thank you my brother. What they’re doing to people’s sources of livelihood is unheard of anywhere in the world. I want to believe there are some folks in Alausa that needs some illegal profiting as usual from this obnoxious, cannibalistic exercise May God show them mercy
Was the hotel built overnight? Was the bank premises renovated overnight? where was the Lagos Town Planning when building was taking place? We should get serious and stop putting stress on our citizens. The hotels and banks are they not paying tax to Lagos state? Are they not creating employment for Lagos State citizens? Economy is bad worldwide, why would they just wake up overnight and start harassing genuine businesses.
