There is a current debate on the emergency powers being sought by the President from the National Assembly, with analysts, private sector, economists and other Nigerians offering different views as to the possible reasons the President is requesting for such powers.
The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, on Friday, however, told Nigerians what President Muhammadu Buhari says he plans to do with the emergency economic powers that he is currently seeking from the legislature.
According to her, President Buhari plans to use these powers to speed up processes related to ensuring the country’s revival from its current economic slumber. She made this known in a press briefing held on Friday after the one-day presidential retreat.
The minister said that “unusual times need unusual measures” and as such the country could not afford to dilly dally in its search for solutions. “What we need is speed. That is why we want the National Assembly to help us with. We don’t have the powers to truncate the law. These are unusual times, which need unusual measures…” the minister said.
The powers, she said, would enable the President act quicker. She cited the example of having to advertise jobs for a minimum of 12 weeks as a delay that would further elongate the current hardship.
She however said that the FG would continue to ensure that there is open procurement in project allocation and implementation. ‘It’s still important we should have open procurement. Open procurement would give the best pricing and the best opportunities to Nigerians who do not know anybody in government.’ Premium Times quotes Adeosun as saying.

May its me, but it doesn’t appear as if the Minister of Finance knows what she is talking about. She is just throwing words about with no real meaning
Why do you say so?
