The Nigerian Senate this week revealed that it had purchased only 36 utility Land Cruisers at the cost of N36.5 million each contrary to media reports that it procured 108 cars. This of course has caused a furor in the media and with the Nigerian people considering the harsh economic situation that they have all been made to face.
While many Nigerians queue for hours to get fuel for their vehicles, others have no choice but to jump rickety buses or trek long distances to get their destinations. However, our law makers have a different outlook and don’t seem in tune with the realities that a lot of Nigerians face. Whilst a lot of people have heard about the vehicles, driving in them is a totally different ball game and could even stoke more anger and outrage among Nigerians. Since we can’t drive in we decided to show you a video and picture of what a Land Cruiser V8 really looks like.
According to Toyota, the vehicles have a starting price of $83, 825 or N16.7 million using the official exchange rate. This excluded other associated cost of delivering the actual vehicle. The vehicle also cost about N30 million from available information in the price list of most car dealers in Nigeria.

PRESENTLY, THE BULK OF OUR FOREIGN EXCHANGE COMES FROM THE CRUDE OIL. LET OUR LEGISLATORS REMAIN FAITHFULLY COMMITTED TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES AT BOTH HO– USES; HENCE A RECONSIDERATION OF THEIR REPRESENTATION MAY BE REVIEWED BY THE POPULACE AND THE ELECTORATES.
