President Buhari has staunchly defended his opposition to the devaluation of the Nigeria and also defended the current capital controls introduced by the CBN. One of his major talking points are toothpick manufacturing. He claims, Nigerian imports everything including toothpick.
This video demonstrates how they are manufactured and why it is probably not as easy as he thinks.
Woow… this is really great info…thanks alot admin.
Interesting…now we shouldn’t wonder why we can’t manufacture something as simple as toothpicks any longer. Clearly there is a whole ecosystem around the manufacturing of most products, and when you don’t have the complete ecosystem sorted you would struggle to make anything. Power, raw material, machinery, knowhow, supply chain, etc, no wonder we were importing toothpicks. But surely there must be a cheaper and less power intensive method of making toothpicks -this one looks too complicated for the ordinary Nigerian manufacturer.
Oga Nairametrics & Samuel….whats so complicated about this production process? is it rocket science? Do we not manufacture chemicals, drugs and goods in the country that are more technologically intensive than this? Please stop promoting mediocrity!!! Even if Nigerians cannot produce it, the mere fact that a demand and need for toothpicks exist and the scale of the market indicates it’s attractiveness for a foreign investor who sees potential in Nigerian on a long term basis.
