As you get set to read President GEJ’s remarks about Nigeria’s intention to rely on Atomic Energy to power electricity, just take your mind back to the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster in 1986 and the Fushikima Nuclear disaster in 2011, which are perhaps reminders of the dangers nuclear energy posses.
We have the potentials to generate enough power for our domestic use in this country, we can harness our gas, water resources already we are working on two dams in the North, our coal reserve is abundant. The very unpopular one is the energy from atomic sources, which we are working very hard to deploy. The National Atomic Agency will always control it because of its sensitiveness and implications of developing that project.
“The solar is also abundant in the Northern part of the country, so we can explore all these resources to enhance power supply and stimulate growth of small and medium enterprises. We are lucky as a nation that we have all these resources,” President GEJ
In a country where power supply is worse than erratic and maintenance culture in non-existence news of Nigeria planning to rely on atomic energy to generate electricity is as scary as it gets.
