- The European Union on Thursday announced an offer of an additional 80million Euros grant to the four Niger Delta States participating in the State Employment and Expenditure for Results[SEEFOR] Project.
- It would be recalled that at the inception of SEEFOR in 2013, the European Union provided a grant of $100million to be implemented over a five year period of 2013-2017.
- Speaking in Abuja at the National Stakeholders’ Validation Workshop on the Informal Sector Study on the four SEEFOR States, the Programme Manager, Economic Governance and Trade Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation to Nigeria, Omotunde Oni, said the amount has been approved under the 10th European Development Fund for the implementation of SEEFOR project in Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta States.
- Oni called for concerted engagement and integration of the informal sector into the mainstream Nigeria’s economy, adding that informal sector contributes 51 per cent to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
